MEUSA Volunteer Opportunities!

Marriage Equality USA is here to empower you to advocate for marriage equality in your own voice.

If there is something you'd like to do and you don't see it here, we'd like to help - people bring us their ideas and we see what we can do to help them make it happen - contact Brian Silva at bsilva@marriageequality.org.

Before volunteering, please make sure you are a member of Marriage Equality USA - just click here, then complete and submit the online form. Please take time to peruse our website and become familiar with our organization.

Marriage Equality USA is a volunteer-driven organization, and as such, most of our local and national staff positions are volunteer based.  A few positions are occasionally for paid employment.  Please click here for paid employment and intern openings.

CURRENT OPENINGS - (V): Volunteer Positions; (P): Paid Positions; (I): Internships

Seeking Chapter Leaders Outside of California and New York! (V)

We are seeking volunteer leaders for existing chapters in these states: Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. we are also seeking volunteers to begin chapters in other states. If you are interested, please contact our ED, Brian Silva: bsilva@marriageequality.org. (Read about our chapters.)

Community Liaisons

These are volunteer leadership positions with Marriage Equality USA. Community Liaisons focus on educating the public about marriage equality within targeted communities, providing information and sharing our message in specific ways, as well as contributing information regarding their communities to our national organization. These are national positions -- residents of all states are elegible. Read more. Contact Brian Silva at bsilva@marriageequality.org.

Extra, Extra! Write all about it! Seeking News Writers (V)

Have a strong passion for equal rights and enthusiasm for writing? MEUSA is seeking highly-motivated, talented volunteers with excellent research and writing skills to join our news-writing team. The position is available to anyone with a strong grasp on the English language with excellent communication skills.
Some of the writing will include blog posts, news coverage, and personal essays.

Interested volunteers should email Shelley Ruchti news@marriageequality.org with the subject heading "MEUSA Writer." Experience is a plus but not required.

Ready for Your 15 Minutes of Fame? Are you willing to give interviews to the media? (V)

Are you you were willing to give interviews to the press regarding marriage equality? If so, please make sure you are a member of Marriage Equality USA - you can click here to join. Then, please email Christine Allen callen@marriageequality.org and include the following info:
• Your name
• Your current contact information (best phone # and email address)
• Your place of residence (city, state, country)
• Do you describe your area of residence as urban, suburban, or rural?
• Do you describe yourself as a Youth, Young Adult, Middle-Aged, or Senior?

In no way do we mean to be intrusive, however, the fact is that we are often contacted by members of the media who are looking for people in specific situations to talk with regarding a story they are working on. Therefore, we will send you a questionnaire and your response will help us to make appropriate referrals in order to keep getting our stories out there and to further the cause of marriage equality.

Social Media Team  (National and Local) (V)

Calling all Facebook and social media fanatics -- we need volunteers to post to local Facebook pages; post to the national MEUSA Facebook page; track and post on pages of local LGBTIQ and allied organizations.  Experience in the following areas is desirable: messaging techniques, social networking to build constituencies and online fundraising.  Commitment:  2 + hours per week average and ability to commit to the project for at least one year.  If interested, please email Thom Watson at watson@marriageequality.org.
